Prevent expensive repairs with scheduled maintenance.

Not every major car expense can be avoided, but many of them can when problems are caught early enough. One of the best ways to avoid costly repairs and keep your car or truck running in top condition is with regular preventative maintenance

These are some of the preventative maintenance services we offer at every Tate Boys Tire & Service location:

  • Oil changes: There are few other vehicle maintenance tasks that are more important or more affordable than having your oil changed and your oil filter replaced. We recommend an oil change every 3,000 to 5,000 miles for most vehicles, or more often if you regularly drive under harsh conditions. Dirty oil or not enough oil can cause damage to several parts of your engine.
  • Belt and hose checks: Hoses and belts are subject to continuous wear and tear. We check to be sure that these parts are in excellent condition, replace them if worn, and check to see that connections are solid.
  • Spark plug replacement: Spark plugs are made to last, but they don’t last forever, even under normal conditions. Over time, they may not be as effective at generating enough spark or cause your engine to misfire. Preventative spark plug replacement helps you avoid these issues.
  • Fluid flushes: Your engine relies on several types of fluids to run well and it can degrade over time. We’ll check all of your fluid levels and either replace the old fluid or top it off.

Reduce the chances of a breakdown that may leave you stranded on the road by scheduling preventative maintenance at any Tate Boys Tire & Service location.

Our no-hassle Tire Protection Plan.

For extra peace of mind on the road, add our Tire Protection Plan to your new tire purchase. You get a warranty that’s valid for three years or until any part of your tire is worn to 2/32 of an inch or less, whichever comes first. If your tire should become unserviceable due to a road hazard during the usable tread life of your tire, we will replace it with a new tire. Plus, the replacement tire will be the exact make and model of your original tire if available.

For even greater protection, ask about our service and labor warranty protection plan at any of our locations.

FAQs

Can I bring my car to your car mechanics if it’s still under warranty at the dealership?

Absolutely. You are in no way obligated to get your vehicle serviced by a dealership during your warranty period in order to keep it valid. Our superior level of service quality and using the best parts and products available is how we’re able to provide work that keeps your vehicle’s warranty in effect. With ASE-certified professional mechanics working on your vehicle, we provide the same high level of service you might expect from the dealership at far more competitive prices.

What’s causing my brakes to make odd noises?

Brakes that are grinding or squealing can mean that your brake rotor is contacting your brake caliper. The screech of metal-on-metal is pretty hard to miss and can mean that your brake pads have completely worn out. Most disc brake pads manufactured today are made with a small piece of metal called a wear indicator. When brake pads are worn past a certain point, the wear indicator makes contact with the disc to provide a warning squeal that means it’s time to swap out your brake pads. Noises sometimes come and go during certain situations, such as hard stops, but any sort of odd noises with your brakes shouldn’t be ignored.

How do I know if I need a car AC recharge?

When your vehicle’s AC is blowing lukewarm or even hot air when you’ve set it to cool, it can mean that you are low on refrigerant. This can also mean that you have a leak somewhere in your system. Our ASE-certified mechanics use sophisticated equipment that can spot even the smallest leaks. We’ll test your AC system and can recharge it per your manufacturer’s specifications to the correct levels.

How often should I have my AC checked?

If you notice that your system is having a hard time cooling down your vehicle, are smelling musty odors, or are hearing clicking or rattling noises coming from your AC system, these are all tell-tale signs that something isn’t quite right and it’s time to have your AC checked. You should also make sure to change out your vehicle’s air filters per your manufacturer’s recommended maintenance schedule.

How often should I get oil change service?

While your oil change interval can vary depending on the factors like your daily commute and the make and year of your vehicle, it’s generally recommended to get your oil changed every 3,000 to 5,000 miles with a standard oil change. Full synthetic oil lasts a little longer than conventional motor oil because of the addition of specialized additives designed to keep your engine running better, longer.

How can I make my tires last longer?

Staying on top of preventative maintenance tasks for your tires is your best bet for a long and happy life with them. At least monthly, take a quick measurement of each tire’s tire pressure to make sure it falls within your manufacturer’s specifications. You can usually find the appropriate tire pressure printed on a yellow placard in the driver’s side door jamb or within your owner’s manual. It’s also a good idea to get your tires rotated regularly—generally every 5,000 miles or with each oil change. Ignoring issues like a bumpy ride or your tires pulling to one side can result in premature treadwear and can lessen your tire’s lifespan. If you notice something is not quite right, bring in your vehicle to our tire shop to have your tires checked and serviced.

Why would my “check engine” light be on?

Your check engine light can come on for a multitude of different reasons. When your vehicle’s computer finds a component is not performing in line with preset specifications, it can return an error code. This can mean everything from a loose gas cap to an engine that’s misfiring. The most important thing is to get your vehicle in for a service appointment as soon as possible to let our ASE-certified mechanics see what’s causing the check engine light error code and to fix the issue.

What do the numbers on my tires mean?

The numbers on your tires indicate the tire size, the type of tire, and what the tire is rated for. Let’s look at an example – P215/65R15. The first letter, “P”, is an indication this is for passenger tires. Next, the “215” is a measurement of the width of your tires. After the slash, the “65” is your aspect ratio. This number means your tire’s profile is 65% of your tire’s width. After that, the “R” indicates the tire is a radial construction. Finally, the “15” refers to the wheel size that is made to fit the tire. With your width, profile, wheel size, and desired type, you can browse Tate Boys’ full selection of tires made to fit your vehicle perfectly.

Does Tate Boys offer financing or discounts?

Absolutely, we’re able to offer many different promotions, manufacturers’ rebates on brand-name tires, and other coupons on services that change throughout the year. Be sure to check out our Promotions page for the latest deals we have running. We also offer financing options that provide a dedicated line of credit just for your vehicle and that come with many different benefits.

What is preventative maintenance?

Preventative maintenance is following a set schedule of maintenance tasks that help your vehicle perform at it’s best for as long as possible. Preventative maintenance aims to prevent failures before they occur. Typical preventative maintenance services include oil changes, tire rotations, tire balancing, wheel alignments, checking engine fluid levels, changing air filters, battery checks, and more.

How long do brake pads last?

How long your brake pads last is dependent on many different factors such as your driving habits, type of vehicle, and type of brake pads used. As a general reference, a high-quality brake pad should last you around 40,000 miles.

Can you do a car AC recharge yourself?

Yes there are many DIY AC recharge kits available, but these kits are often not equipped to prevent overcharging which can result in severe damage to your system. Our technicians use highly-sophisticated equipment to recharge your vehicle’s AC to the precise levels set by your manufacturer. As well, any sort of leak in the system can make performing a DIY AC recharge an exercise in futility. With state-of-the-art leak detection equipment, our ASE-certified mechanics can find and repair even the smallest leaks that are robbing your system of refrigerant.

What does ASE-certified car mechanic mean?

An Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certified master technician is an individual who has demonstrated advanced knowledge, experience, and professionalism in the field. An ASE certification is basically a master’s degree for mechanics and signifies the professionals working on your vehicle have the skills necessary to perform the work to the highest standards. All of the technicians at Tate Boys hold this advanced certification so that our customers can have complete confidence in all of the services we provide.

How do you safely repair a flat tire?

Flat tire repairs should always be performed by a professional tire shop. At Tate Boys, we follow the specifications of the U.S. Tire Manufacturers Association (USTMA) for safe and effective flat tire repair. When you have a flat, our technicians can diagnose the issue and provide a fix that complies with USTMA safety standards. When a flat tire can’t be safely repaired, we can recommend the new tire to fit your vehicle perfectly.
